Does Levemir® FlexPen® need to be refrigerated? How long does it last? Get the answers you’re looking for below.


1. What type of needles should I use with Levemir® FlexPen®?
NovoFine® 30- or 31-gauge disposable needles are recommended. Modern needles like the NovoFine® needles are very fine and short, and may make injecting more comfortable.

2. What if I dial up the wrong dose on Levemir® FlexPen® before injecting?
It’s important to check your dose before each injection. You can add or subtract units by simply turning the dose dial forward or backward.

3. Does Levemir® FlexPen® need to be refrigerated?
You should store unopened Levemir® FlexPen® in the refrigerator. Once in use, keep Levemir® FlexPen® at room temperature (less than 86°F) for 42 days. After 42 days, Levemir® FlexPen® should not be used.

4. Once I begin using my Levemir® FlexPen®, how long will it last?
The amount of time each Levemir® FlexPen® lasts will depend on your insulin needs. Once in use, Levemir® FlexPen® should not be used after 42 days. Always check the expiration date when you get your prescription.

5. How do I discard Levemir® FlexPen®?
Simply throw out Levemir® FlexPen® as you would any vial. And remember to carefully dispose of all used needles in a “sharps” container or empty metal or hard plastic container.
