What is Levemir®? Levemir® is a long-acting basal insulin

Levemir® is a long-acting basal insulin that can be used alone or in combination with rapid-acting bolus insulin therapy.

About Levemir® Insulin
Levemir® is a long-acting basal insulin that is used to treat children and adults with type 1 diabetes and adults with type 2 diabetes for the control of high blood sugar. It’s used once or twice a day to lower blood sugar.

About Basal insulins
Basal insulins, such as Levemir®, give your body insulin throughout the day and night. Basal insulin may help your body keep a normal blood sugar level between meals and while you’re sleeping.

Basal-Bolus Insulin Therapy
Some people may just take a long-acting basal insulin such as Levemir®. Other people who take Levemir® may also take a rapid-acting, or bolus, insulin. Taking a long-acting basal insulin such as Levemir® and a rapid-acting bolus insulin is called “basal-bolus therapy.” Basal-bolus therapy helps people with diabetes control blood sugar all day and at meals when blood sugar levels spike.

Make sure to take Levemir® insulin as prescribed by your doctor.
