Levemir® is a long-acting basal insulin. Levemir® is used to treat children and adults with type 1 diabetes and adults with type 2 diabetes for the control of high blood sugar. It’s used once or twice a day to lower blood sugar. Basal insulins, like Levemir®, give your body insulin throughout the day and night. Basal insulin may help your body keep a normal blood sugar level between meals and while you’re sleeping. Some people may just take a long-acting basal insulin like Levemir®. Other people who take Levemir® may also take a fast-acting, or bolus, insulin. Taking a long-acting basal insulin like Levemir® and a fast-acting bolus insulin is called “basal-bolus therapy.” Basal-bolus therapy helps people with diabetes control blood sugar both during the day and at meals when blood sugar levels spike. Make sure to take Levemir® how your doctor tells you to and at the same time every day. |
