There can be many benefits of taking insulin.

Taking insulin is one of the ways to help manage diabetes. Sometimes you may feel like taking insulin is overwhelming or a hassle. But it may help to think of it as your partner in helping manage diabetes. When you take insulin and add exercise and good nutrition, you have taken important steps to helping manage your diabetes. That’s something to be proud of.

There are different kinds of insulin that can help in different ways. Some work fast around the time that you eat. This type of insulin, called rapid-acting or “bolus” insulin, helps control your blood sugar when it’s most likely to spike (after you eat). Other insulin, like Levemir®, is long-acting or “basal.” That means you have a steady amount of insulin that can last for up to 24 hours.
